Prince Takes Over Old Market Square For Concert Movies At The Cube

Last year, we brought a new sort of party to the Exchange District, pairing classic concert films on the big screen with contemporary local musicians to make an unforgettable night of music, food, fun and friendship. If you thought Yes We Mystic and the Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense were a good fit, and bopped your head in approval to 3PEAT before watching Beastie Boys’ Awesome I …  Shot That, then you’re no doubt ready for the classic-even-though-it-hasn’t-happened-yet pairing of Roman Clarke and Prince’s Sign O The Times.

Yes We Mystic by Mike Peters.

“Just like we’ve done with Alleyways in the Exchange, we wanted to take a good idea, give it an Exchange District twist, and make it something unique and really great,” says Exchange District BIZ Executive Director David Pensato. “So we took the idea of screening a movie outdoors and we’re turning it into a concert experience. We’re taking Bijou Park and turning it into an outdoor venue. We’re taking the Cube, and literally looking at it from a different angle.”

We can’t believe we’re going to be lucky enough to watch the soulful rock stylings of Winnipeg’s Roman Clarke play before Prince’s 1987 concert film insanity, peppered with DJs Hunnicutt and Co-op in between. We’ve even licensed the area, and we’re featuring beer from the Exchange District’s own Nonsuch Brewery to keep you cool in the summer heat. We’ve also got more than 40 restaurants in the area, so grab some take out and bring it on over. Want tickets? Admission is free and open to all ages! The party runs from 7:30pm-midnight (with an after party @ Cordova) so get your dancin’ shoes on and we’ll see you there Friday, August 2nd.
