Ever thought you’d like to bike into the Exchange District but weren’t sure if there was a safe and easy route to get there?
Well, we’ve partnered with the amazing crew at Natural Cycle to help you do just that – find the safest, easiest routes and have a little help getting comfortable on the roads.
We’ve been leading low-key rides on the First Friday of the month throughout the summer and on September 7 we’ll be wrapping things up with a ride in from Chief Peguis Trail in North Kildonan.
The idea is to show you how you can get into the Exchange District while almost entirely avoiding motor vehicle traffic— while sharing tips and tricks that can make riding your bike into the Exchange District a really enjoyable experience along the way.
“The bike-ins are a great opportunity to learn from daily commuter cyclists how they navigate the city,” says Olivia Michalczuk, one of the Exchange District BIZ Wayfinders. “What better way to learn than from someone whos primary mode of transportation is by bike? All the awesome events during First Fridays are a great reward after making your way to the Exchange.”
With the new biking infrastructure, provided by the city, it’s easier than ever to get around by bike and we want to be sure that you are comfortable getting here and navigating your way around once you arrive. Whether you want to bike here for the rest of the summer/fall season or really embrace Winnipeg’s winter and continue into the colder months the First Fridays Bike-In is a great way to get started.
The bike in begins at 7pm and once in the Exchange you can enjoy First Fridays in the Exchange, grab a bite to eat, explore the shops and galleries, and take in the area. A group will ride back out at 10pm, for those who want some help on their way back home.
First Fridays is one of the most exciting monthly events in the City, with artists and galleries throughout the Exchange District opening their doors into the evening. And this month we also have two other exciting events in the area!
It’s our final Alleyways in the Exchange of the season. The alleyways throughout the district are packed with excitement including Alleyways Market, Alleyways Art Lounge, and Alleyways Swing. And we are bringing you another Concert Movies at the Cube! This time featuring the classic Beastie Boys concert movie Awesome; I Shot That!
It’s going to be an incredible night in the Exchange District so whether you stick around all night or just pop in for a visit join us for the bike-in and see how much fun it is to cycle to the Exchange!
