If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? If an artist creates a body of work and no one is around to see it, does it make an impact? What is the importance of having our work as artists witnessed? And how do we go about getting that work seen? How do we find an audience and a venue for our stories and acts of creation? Do we mount our own show? Do we go with a commercial gallery, an artist run centre, have an online presence, or work in NFT’s? What do we do with our work, once it is created? And how do we, as artists, get paid for our work?

Artists put their heart and soul into their creations. They are visionaries, they are the voice of the people, they shine light in dark places and celebrate resilience through brush strokes, photographs, movement, design, sculpture, performance, images on screen and the written word. They allow expression to flow from their deepest depths out of their hands to capture a moment in time, a thought, a story and create a piece of work that inspires, repels, delights, causes an emotional reaction within a viewer that can often cause change.

As Indigenous artists, it’s more important now than ever to put our voices out into the world. Join internationally renowned artist KC Adams and rising star JD Hawk as they discuss the art of the art show. Together they will shed light on the process and practicalities of mounting a showing of your work. Discussing all the ups and downs, ins and outs, to do’s and not to do’s, along with things to consider, and protocols to remember. It’s bound to be a very insightful and helpful conversation as you make your own way on to the world’s art stage.

Join us and find out how to begin your journey to having your own art show!
