My art expresses who I am through it’s vibrancy, boldness, colour, and sense of fun. I set out to have each piece make a statement; to be noticed on your wall, to wow the viewer, to be memorable and not exist merely as a wall filler or decor item. I paint meticulously while listening to the music that suits the tone of the piece. Most of my works are as bright and colourful as I can make them, in fact I have never been able to find paints that give the depth of colour I want, so I reapply each colour at least 3 times (sometimes 4). I tell people that the first coat is part of the joy of the creative process; the 2nd coat is pure drudgery, and the third coat is like sticking pins in my eyes! However in this case the end justifies the pain. I have recently begun a series of paintings that are a major departure in style. I had contemplated calling it “Grey Matter”, or throwing a nod to Charles Darwin by titling it “Evolution of the Series” but “My Shades of Grey” helps it speak for itself.

Bio:

Lifelong proud Winnipegger, educator, businessman, and artist. My motto in life is to have no regrets at the end of it, so if I have an idea of just about any sort I pursue it. Some work out, some don’t but the ride is always worth it. My wonderful wife calls me “a serial entrepreneur” and I’d go along with that. I apply that philosophy to my art as well in that each piece comes from a place of excitement and is an evolution in planning, style and execution.

The art world is now my world. I painted and sketched voraciously until I was about 19 and then not at all, until I retired from business many years later. A pivotal moment at the beginning of my art revival was when I became friendly with a gallery owner in Key West, Florida. It struck me right in the creativity when she said, “All the paintings in my gallery are fabulous but none of them make me smile or are fun.” Bingo had been called and that became my mantra.

I have exhibited in galleries throughout Canada, the USA, and Mexico so that my paintings now hang in homes and offices worldwide. I’m especially proud of my 7 year tenure as “The Artist in Residence” at “The International Gallery” in Puerto Vallarta for the winter months. Sweet gig eh?
