Art Sale for Standing Rock

December 10, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Free

A pivotal contemporary art sale showcasing works from over 45 Winnipeg-based artists will take place at Forth Projects next week. In solidarity with Standing Rock Water Protectors, local artists and artisans have donated their works with all proceeds going towards supporting the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe – Dakota Access Pipeline Fund.

Art works range from paintings, prints, ceramics, and crafts and include participation from The Ephemerals (Jaimie Isaac, Jenny Western, Niki Little), a collective of Indigenous artists and curators based in Winnipeg that develop collaborative projects that focus on contemporary Indigenous art. Participating artists also include Lita Fontaine, Darryl Nepinak, Christian Procter and Karen Taylor [see full artist roster attached.] Arlea Ashcroft (ACI Manitoba) and Clayton Thomas-Muller (350.org), will also be present to share stories of their solidarity work and activism with Standing Rock.

Karina Cardona Claros, event organizer, mentions the positive impact of art-based community activism, “the event has brought people together and grown in ways that I could not have imagined. Artists have come together in solidarity to support the remarkable efforts of Water Protectors and I am sure that we will raise a lot of money for those who are protecting the health of our planet’s future right now.”

Art Sale for Standing Rock takes place at Forth Projects (171 McDermot Avenue) on Saturday, December 10th, 10am-4pm.
