The Exchange District is one of Winnipeg’s most celebrated neighbourhoods. That’s no surprise, since it has so much to celebrate: its unparalleled historical character, its architecture, its artistic and cultural community, its events, and its broad variety of independent businesses. This year especially, the entrepreneurial spirit and determination of those businesses has been on full display.
Shop Local
The money you spend with local businesses stays here. For every $100 spent at an independent retail store or restaurant $45 is recirculated into Winnipeg’s economy compared to only $17 for chain competitors.
Local businesses employ more local people than chains, the decisions they make take their communities into account, and in the Exchange District, directly contribute to making the neighbourhood a better place.
Shop safe
Many of the Exchange District’s businesses offer curbside pickup and delivery options. The open-air environment adds another measure of safety. Essential businesses that welcome people inside are ensuring that the number of customers at one time allow for room to stay a safe distance apart.
Shop the Exchange this Holiday Season
The Exchange District has always been a holiday shopping mainstay — there’s a reason Hallmark likes to film their seasonal movies here! As we enter a very different holiday season, we’re making it easy for you to shop safely while supporting our local businesses.
On our dedicated Shop Local. Shop the Exchange page, you’ll be able to quickly browse local options for shopping, ordering, pick-up, and delivery, along with some highlights of products they have on offer.
Our updated business listings round it out with every business in the Exchange District, which now allows you to sort by ordering, pick-up, and delivery options to find the safe, distanced shopping method that suits you.
It’s Cold Outside, so Drink Something Warm
We’ve brought back the perennial favourite, Hot Beverage Week with a take-out centred set of beverages from December 7-13, so you’ll have something to sip up while you pick up your purchases. This local taste of the holidays includes signature specialties from the Acorn Cafe in Generation Green, Amsterdam Tea Room, Patent 5, Nonsuch Brewery, Bronuts, Parlour Coffee, Peasant Cookery and Harrisons Coffee Company.
Free Parking
Did you know that on-street parking is free for one hour Monday to Friday and two hours on Saturdays? It’s true!
More to come
In the coming weeks, we will feature a few of the great finds available in the Exchange District with a series of gift guides, making it simple to pick out one-of-a-kind items to brighten the season for your family and friends.
