Chosabi redefining Asian cuisine

With dishes like Happy Buddha, California Sumo and Kung Fu Tofu, you know you’ve entered a restaurant where creativity and having fun is all part of the menu. Cho Venevongsa, owner of Winnipeg’s iconic Wasabi Group, opened up Chosabi Asian Eatery in the historical Exchange District in December. It’s fast and casual, healthy and delicious and incredibly unique. Ingredients and vegetables proudly come from local sources and Chosabi’s head chef has been working for Cho for over 10 years.

It’s not just an amazing new addition to the Exchange District, it’s the next chapter in Cho’s incredible career and life story. Born in Laos, Cho came to Canada as a refugee in 1984. He’s been working in the industry since he was 12 and continues to work hard and be present in all of his restaurants every single day.

Not only did Cho come up with the concept, design and menu for Chosabi, he literally built the restaurant. Cho is a chef AND a general contractor. From floor to ceiling, to every window and screw, Cho brought Chosabi to life using his own two hands. From the ground up, every detail is a product of Cho’s craftsmanship and vision.

Cho found his new location at 100 King Street after coming to the area for lunch with his three daughters. He stopped in at King + Bannatyne for a sandwich and couldn’t believe the line-up. After eating his sandwich, there was a still a line-up. Then he headed next door to Bronuts and again couldn’t believe the people waiting in line. After seeing the vibe of the area and the success of its culinary ventures, he was hooked and knew he had to be a part of the Exchange.

Chosabi Asian Eatery is open Monday to Saturday from 10:30 to 8:00 but will most likely extend its hours during the busy summer season.

The Exchange District Biz would officially like to welcome this one-of-a-kind eatery to the Exchange District.
